Everyone has heard of Steven Spielberg's film "Jurassic Park". The film was a huge success on both sides of the Atlantic, and pretty much all over the Western world. That was back in 1993, and the hype has died down now. Bigger and better movies have hit the big screen since, putting Jurassic Park in the shade as one of those films that most people own on video, but don't watch anymore. However, little credit is given to author, Michael Crichton, the brains and inspiration behind this ground-breaking film that shaped the future generation of film-making. Had they made the film exactly to the original book "Jurassic Park", it would ... Read the complete review

Micheal Crichton - Jurassic Park I absolutely loved all of the Jurassic Park movies, and as with most movies the first was the best, and this book is pretty good too. Published in 1988 by Century Jurassic Park was very famous and had a large fan-base, the book was no different many who read it loved it. I remember watching the film from 1993 which made me really want to find and read the book aswell because of how much I enjoyed the plot. The book i read had so many technical diagrams and things which really appealed to me, and made me get really stuck into the reading. There is a lengthy introduction which is not really essential and some people I ... Read the complete review

Before I start this review, I'm going to be completely blunt and tell you that I only bought this because Asda was selling it in a two-in-one edition for the knock down price of 97p. If it hadn't been so cheap I wouldn't have bought it, and given the chance to go back in time, I wouldn't even have bothered at that price. Now I do realise that a lot of people like this book, and rave about how much better than the film it is, but sorry I just don't agree, I hated it and literally forced myself to carry on reading, just in case it improved. Ok, before I go any further, lets have a quick overview of the plot. A mad scientist has collected genetic material from ... Read the complete review

The late Michael Crichton used his books as a tool for philosophical and ethical debate while questioning our role as a species on this planet. In this book he portrays science run amok with its advancement of genetic manipulation while popularising the idea of nature being ultimately stronger over man. Oh, and it's an old fashion adventure story with dinosaurs. It starts not on the Jurassic Park island itself but nearby on the mainland. A few deaths and a mysterious lizard corpse begin the story which then leads to dino-island creator and multimulti millionaire John Hammond to invite guests and experts into his un finished amusement park in hope ... Somehow I've managed to avoid watching the much-hyped Spielberg movie, but having heard several friends say how the book was much better than the film, I didn't resist too hard when the book was pressed on me. In case anyone is reading this who's been locked in a dark room for the past several years, this is a story about a company setting up an amusement park / zoo on an isolated island. And stoking it with real dinosaurs, cloned from DNA recovered from insects preserved in amber. As the financing company begins to get suspicious that things are going wrong, they send in a group of lawyers and consultants to give an independent report on it's ... Read the complete review
