Advantages: Good read

Disadvantages: None

The late Michael Crichton used his books as a tool for philosophical and ethical debate while questioning our role as a species on this planet. In this book he portrays science run amok with its advancement of genetic manipulation while popularising the idea of nature being ultimately stronger over man.

Oh, and it's an old fashion adventure story with dinosaurs.

It starts not on the Jurassic Park island itself but nearby on the mainland. A few deaths and a mysterious lizard corpse begin the story which then leads to dino-island creator and multimulti millionaire John Hammond to invite guests and experts into his un finished amusement park in hope that their reviews can help fight his critics and the authorities in investigating.

Obviously the dinosaurs bits are very exciting, especially having a fascination with them as a child. The book very much explores an adult world which is probably why it was toned/ dumb down as to reach a young audience with the film version (The book is much more gory). I had the audio book as a kid and it successfully taught me swear words to my mother's delight.

Its written very straight forward as I imagine a writer with a background in medical science would do, but with an eerie sense of mystery and ultimately leaves you with a feeling of melancholy

Summary: A dinosaur adventure thriller with big ideas.
