A great book in a superb serious of memoirs written by kind teacher Torey. This book was initially written mainly about 6 children in Torey's classroom who have been traumatized by situations in their early years. Even though these children's stories are told and we find out how Torey helps them, the main storyline is about one of the children's (Leslie) unhappy, alcoholic and defensive mother who Torey helps to turn her troubled life around, help her bond with Leslie and find a close friend in the process. Torey takes on Leslie's mum Ladbrooke as a volunteer in the classroom, which gives her a reason to get up each day, and once she starts bonding with the other ... Read the complete review
