The Kama Sutra is a guide to help everyone, whether male or female, gain knowledge of the art of lovemaking. It was written nearly 2000 years ago by the Hindu sage Vatsyayana in the city of Benares on the River Ganges. Many have tried to translate the book of love into English; the original is probably still the best translation. The Kama Sutra (which means ‘aphorisms on love’) was originally transcribed to English in 1883 by two men, F F Arbuthnot and Sir Richard Burton. Arbuthnot thought the Kama Sutra would be a good way for the genteel Victorian male to learn about sex, and also thought it a good aid to help marriages stay strong and happy. ... Introduction - 2000 years ago in the City of Benares on the Ganges the Hindu Sage,Vatsyayana, scribed a work that has remained famed throughout the world today. This work was a guide to relationships of the time,a courtesans handbook, dealing with marraige, courtship, maintaining love and variety in a marraige, courtships and a social guide. It dealt with rituals and traditions, the life of a wife and acts of love. Hmmm... no one has attempted to write about this book, but I'm game for most things, hence the reason for having the manual in the first place. Manual? Yes. It's a manual. Not the car-fixing or computer type, but a manual about Love. And I also mean the capital L. The edition I possess is based on the 1883 translation by Sir Richard Burton (possibly a relative, I don't know..) and I can therefore get away with having it on the bookshelf as a representation of the naive attitude given to a sexually explosive book. Well, that's what I've told my mum and it keeps her happy. Of course what you're dealing with is a ... Read the complete review

Having receiving 'Pocket Kama Sutra' by Anne Hooper as a Christmas present from my boyfriend (hmm very thoughtful...) to be perfectly honest I didn't really take much interest in it, but one day I decided to have a more detailed look and I must admit that it was very informative, originally I thought it would contain 500 pictures of various sexual positions! I also tended to class the book as tacky, which isn't the case at all. I'm sure the majority of people would agree when I say that after being with the same partner for a while things tend to get a little dull in the bedroom department, this book covered several chapters: The ... My lover and I decided to try this out to see what all the fuss was about. The book we purchased was Anne Hoopers "Pocket Kama Sutra" because it looked very compact and well written. Since purchasing the book we have never looked back. The Kama Sutra was written for the nobility of India around 200 ad. It is not just about twisting and turning your body in various positions it is about learning a whole new way of love making. The Kama Sutra was aimed at men(surprise surprise) but it does not ignore the many needs of women. It states that women should be stimulated and gives very explicit instructions on how men can achieve ... Read the complete review
