I found that just as I was getting into a rythum, it would change and I'd be a little lost again however by the time I had read it over a few times, it came naturally and I knew where to go. The illustrations which were drawn by Lynne Chapman, were really good and made the whole book. The characters were bright and engaging and looked extremely friendly and happy. I particularly like the way that they were all coloured in with what looks like pencils. This makes a change from the block,...more

This book is written by Julia Jarman and tells the story of a young Kangaroo who goes to France. During his stay he watches a sow where all of the dancers a doing the can can. On his return to Australia he misses the dancing so much that he decides to open a café where the can can is danced. He sets about holding auditions and whilst lots of the animals try out for the part, he just can't seem to find an animal that does it well. The story is written in one big rhyme from start to finish but Ididn't feel that it flowed as easily as some children's book that I have read. This is one of the most annoying books my son has got lately. It's about a Kangaroo who is so inspired by the Cancan dance in France that he tries to get the animals to take part in it in his native Australia. OK, so that's not a bad premise for a story. I mean, it includes animals which are always a hit with kiddies, and indeed they are nice in this story. There are all sorts of odd ones such as Koala bears and Emus. It is also a story which can prompt some interesting conversations about Australia and indeed France. So why do I hate it so much? The rhyme ...  Read the complete review

The story stars with Kangaroo going to France where he saw a great dance and became a fan, he would spend everyday in a café enjoying watching the cancan dance.
