The latest book to sweep into my hands is 'Katy Carter Wants a Hero', by author Ruth Saberton. Now I had never heard of Ruth Saberton so I had no idea what to expect from this. However I did conjure up a first impression that was nothing but positive. The cover of the book itself is incredibly attractive, a luscious bright pink shade that is incredibly inviting, decorated with cartoon images of high heel shoes and glasses of wine. It all looks so femenine and exciting. Straight away I knew that this was going to be an exciting read.
The book itself tells the story of Katy Carter. She may just be an English teacher, but she dreams of becoming a number one best selling author. Though she had to put her dream on hold for a while as she had a Dinner Party to plan for her partner James. Though when it all goes horribly wrong, Katy's life changes dramatically. Will she get her dream of becoming a top novelist, or will her writing just be scribbles on the page?

This is most certainly an exciting book. I always find it interesting to read about books about budding authors, as I always wonder if that is how the author of the book felt. Perhaps Ruth Saberton used to scrawl ideas and stories all over pages and pages! The author's style in this book is what makes it particularly interesting. It is incredibly descriptive, allowing you to create clear images of the events in your head. It's quite a busy book, with a lot going on in a short space of time, though it is so wonderfully written that I found I was able to keep up with the pace and follow the events easily. The characters too are well rounded and life like, making it much easier to connect with them and understand their points of view, even if you do not necessarily agree with what they are saying.
The layout of the book also fascinates me. A large portion of it is written in your usual first person style, though every so often we dip into Katy's latest piece, 'an Eighteenth Century novel about Millandra and her hero Jake. Not only does it give us something else to read and get involved with, but it takes us to an author's mindset as we read her thoughts about her work. It's interesting how they dissect each part of the story, analysing each piece of dialogue and movement to make sure everything connects.

I was given this book by Waterstones to proof read, and despite the fact that the cover of the book was on backwards (!), I am thrilled to be chosen for this particular read. The book itself will be released in April 2010, and will be priced at around £7. I would say it is most certainly worth adding to your wish list as it is a truly fascinating book.
'Katy Carter Wants a Hero' is a phenomenal book with such an exciting plot and characters to match. Each page brings a new dilemma or turn of events, keeping us reading right through to the end. It is written in an interesting and unique way which makes it all the more exciting. It is most certainly one to look out for, and I will definitely be going in search of works by the same author!
