I’d never heard of Claire Frances before a few months ago when I somehow ran out of books to read, and seeing as I have heard of so many good books I want to read from dooyoo opinions I am amazed at this. A asked my mum if she had any good books she would let me borrow and she produced two Claire Frances books for me. Well I was just about to read one of them when I found two books by two of my favourite authors I hadn’t read so the books stayed in the corner of my room. Then along came Harry Potter and soon the books were forgotten until now. I ran out of books two weeks ago and now I have just finished the first Claire Frances book I was given, Keep me ... Being a big fan of crime novels I am always looking forward to the release of new books and especially that of new writers. Claire Francis has been making a name for herself in recent years and has written other very successful novels called "Deceit", "Betrayal" and "Dark Devotion". "Keep me close" follows a similar theme when the main character Catherine is attacked in her home after she has been harrassed with nusiance phone calls and it tells the story of her recovery and the pursuit to find her attacker. This book is dire. I have thoroughly enjoyed several of Claire Francis' previous books, including Deceit, A Dark Devotion and Betrayal. This effort has a poor story line; weakly sketched characters; a pathetic plot; and an unbelievably drab style of writing. I ploughed my way through to the end (as a matter of principle) and then immediately threw it in the bin. What a waste of money and a complete turn off for anyone reading a Francis novel for the first time. In fact the book is so bad, I wonder if Ms Francis is indeed the author? ... I was impressed with Clare Francis' ability to write this thriller. It's plot is quite interesting and the characters well thought out. It did however have me bouncing backwards and forwards through what I felt were too many locations and business dealings. If anything, it was a little padded. I did find it captivating and wished the circumstances for the main character, Catherine Galitza, to improve. The last two or three chapters were read with increased pace, simply to reach the conclusion, which was disappointing. I actually felt the book had a few pages missing as the story had such poor ending. ... Read the complete review
