My first introduction to this brilliant author was with Rachel's Holiday. From the first page I was sent on a emotional rollercoaster, laughing out loud at the antics of the Walsh family one minute, and then being totally brought down to earth with a bang the next. I cried and laughed all the way through. This has been the same with every one of her books. Seen as i've been reviewing a lot of Marian Keyes books, i decided it was time to write a bit more about the author herself. ~~Marian Keyes~~ She was born in Ireland in 1963 so the Irish settings for some of her books come as no surprise to me. Having moved to London in her twenties, you can see where the motivation for some of her books come from. Last Chance Saloon features around three people just appraoching their thirties having moved from Dublin to London in their twenties. This is a mirror image of her life in a way, although several details have been changed. As a recovering alcoholic, her strengths can clearly be seen within her first novel ... With all the new Bridget Jones type books circulating on the market place now, it is hard to know which authors to read and those not to read. The first book of Marian Keyes that I read was Rachels Holiday. It was impossible to put down. Keyes has this ability to draw in the reader and make you part of the book. You become the heroine. I chose the second book because I liked the cover and the description on the back, I did not even realise it was by the same author. This book was amazing, I totally became part of it and never wanted the story to end. The same could be said about Last Chance Saloon. What a great way to escape from real life!
