Advantages: Amusing and Quick to read
Disadvantages: A bit repetitive
This is the third in a series of 'cozy' mysteries. For anyone that hasn't read a 'cozy' before they are very light-hearted mysteries (usually written by American authors) and have a theme such as food. They are usually fairly predictable and very easy to read (as well as short). The first book is called 'A Pen to Hire' but all are stand alone so you wouldn't necessarily have to start with that one.
This is my favourite series. It is based around the character of Jaine Austen - a freelance writer who in every novel finds herself in the role of an (unofficial) private detective. She is a great character - she feels like a real woman! She is in her thirties, single and admits to loving shopping, spending money, eating a lot of fast food and having long baths. She also lives with her cat Prozac so great books for cat lovers as well as he is always featured in her books!
In this novel (my favourite of the series) she begins to ghostwrite a book for Beverly Hills socialite - SueEllen Kingsley (who unfortunely dies not long into the book). Her step daughter is accused so Jaine sets out to find out who did it - knowing only that the killer was blonde.
This book is very amusing and had me laughing out loud many times. This was a great satire on the ridiculous world of Beverly Hills, plastic surgery and people too rich to have any common sense.
My only criticism is that she uses some phrases over and over again which can be a bit tedious even in a short book! But overall, a great fun read.
A Quick tip - As they are American you usually pay a sourcing fee so I found the best way to but these books is second hand through Amazon market place, I have managed to get most of about £2 each.
Summary: Great fun
