Advantages: Good mix of genres within one story.

Disadvantages: Nothing

Alice Loudon is happily living with her boyfriend and on her way to work one day she passes a stranger. Their eyes lock and they cannot pull away from each others stare.

Eventually Alice goes into work but when she comes out the stranger is waiting for her and she follows him, under a spell, into a taxi and back to his flat. Intense and unbeleivable sex follows and Alice's whole world is turned upside down.

She leaves her boyfriend and practically her whole life as she knew it and becomes immersed in the stranger - Adam's - world. Sex is the biggest part of their life and Adam is always so intense but Alice realises early on that he enjoys inflicting a little bit of pain in his and her life as well and things start to worry her more and more.

Has she made the wrong move by cutting off her friends and family in favour of Adam and their intense and passionate relationship?

I had only read one Nicci French book before and I enjoyed that so was glad when this one also fulfilled my expectations.

The character of Adam Tallis is actually very scary to read about. He is unpredictable yet never loses control and everything he does is premeditated and he always remains in control of the situation. He is over powering and domaneering and it is hard to understand why Alice falls for him. But French has such a way of describing their relationship that you cannot fail to accept the fact that he literally swept Alice off her feet and she became mesmerised by him.

I loved the tension build up and the fact that you never really know the truth until the last few chapters. I much prefer it this way than knowing all the details of who did what at the start and then seeing if they get caught. The suspension is great and in some chapters it was so tight that I almost fell over the words trying to read them so quickly and satisfy my urge to see what happens.

This is a scary story, but it is also a love story and one of crime and thriller scenes as well. A really mixed bag that all comes together in a really good, intense novel that is easy to read and will levae you satisfied in every way.

Summary: RECOMMENDED xx

"French *has*" - should be *have* as it's a husband and wife authorship thing.

I couldn't get into this novel at all, and I usually love their book. Lexy
