Advantages: Wonderful thick, gripping plot
Disadvantages: one tends to prop eyelids open to keep reading aslong as possible!
Normally i prefer to stick to a few authors, one of my favourite genres of book is horror and one of my favourite authors of horror books is shaun hutson, having devoured all the books i could find by him I was keen to branch out to new authors..this came in the form of a gift from my boyfriend, at first i glanced at it in disguist, i must admit i do tend to judge books by their cover, however once i started the book i was hooked.
Very soon into the book, things begin to get interesting, it seems that a quiet dull town in England, that usually sees nothing of interest is changing. It starts of innocently enough, people cast out of their houses, forced to live with little food or water in make shift shelters in close proximity to eachother. A descent into animaly brutality and violence soon ensues.
The main character and a group of friends soon seek refuge in the countryside after being forced out of his house by ravenous humans that have taken to rape and murder.
The story goes on to describe the desperate struggle for survival the group face as humanity slips into obscenity and chaos rules.
Cannibalism, torture, bloodlust and murder all become commonplace in this gripping thriller. So realislic one description of cannibalism haunted me for weeks! This book is truely worth a read and so well written that i often found myself describing it as a film to my friends before i remembered it was actually a book!
I now have three more Simon Clark books, I have read hundreds of stories and enjoy nothing more than snuggling up in bed at night with a good book, i can say that i have numerous books to compare this to, but Kings Blood reigns supreme over all others, I have yet to read a better book.
Summary: chaos, murder, rape and cannibalism, makes for a damn good read!
