Into a Dark Realm - Raymond E. Feist
by IainWear - written on 08/02/08 (Very useful, 92 readings)
Rating:
Along with David Eddings, Raymond E. Feist was one of my first loves when it comes to Fantasy writing. They always used magic as a tool, rarely as a plot device and they avoided the long passages in Elvish that can make Tolkien so much of a chore. I may have always had a slight preference for Eddings, but my copies of Feist s original Riftwar trilogy are showing serious signs of use these days. I may not have kept up with Feist s writing over the years, missing "The Conclave of Shadows" trilogy, but there is enough familiarity in both style and characters to make me feel instantly back at home. Pug may have grown up and is now a grandfather, but he is still ...

Raymond E. Feist in general
by sethanon - written on 11/08/00 (Very useful, 28 readings)
Rating:
If I was to be stranded on a desert island and could only take the books of one author then Raymond E Feist books would be my choice, and he was up against some stiff opposition. His first book, Magician, is a masterpiece of fantasy writing and well worthy to be up there alongside Tolkein. In it he has created a world called Midkemia and the two main characters are a young boy called Pug, destined to be the Worlds greatest magician, and Thomas, also a young boy who travels along the path of warrior. Magician is the first book of three in the Riftwar Saga, the second being Silverthorn and number three is A darkness at Sethanon (recognise the name!). He has also ...
