Description: Author: Stephen King

During this time the couple lived in a trailer with their 3 children Naomi, Joe and Owen. ***The Books*** SK's first novel Carrie was first published in 1973 and although it wasn't an overnight success it gave SK a foot on the ... more

I started my love affair with Stephen King in Italy when I was 15. I was on a family holiday with my parents and younger brother and sister and, being a particularly stroppy teenager, the best way to cope with the horror of it all (free holiday in Venice!!) was to bury my nose in a book for a fortnight. I had bought The Rats by James Herbert at Manchester airport on the way out there and having finished that within a couple of days I started looking around for something similar to keep me going. Stephen King's It was one of the few books I could find in English, and so my addiction began. ***The Great Man Himself*** I won't bore you too ...  Read the complete review

I have found that when you mention the author Stephen King, you get one of two responses. The person either goes on and on with book after book that he has written and that they love. Or they go on to tell you tales of how much he sucks, how he doesn’t write his own books or how lame they think he is. But love him or hate him, any well read person has probably read something he has written. I love to read good horror. In fact, the horror genre is probably one of my favorites next to fantasy. I started reading King when I was a teenager. And the one thing I have discovered while reading his books is this - he is either dead on with the horror or is ...  Read the complete review

It always surprises me when I think of Stephen King's output, how he manages to write good to excellent fiction time and time again. As you can tell I am a big fan of this author and have being since the age of fourteen when a school friend kindly loaned me the massive tome 'It'. Since then I have devoured just about every novel the man has written to the detriment of my dwindling bank balance. I will admit that the recent 'Dreamcatcher' was a bit of a disappointment; but it has in no way put me off. The excellent 'On Writing: A Memoir' will easily sustain me until his next release. Stephen King is categorised as a horror ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Stephen King - King Once Again (782 words)

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. However, there was a time when this was not the case. When he was first published, he was undoubtedly my favorite. I started reading him when "Carrie" came out. And I continued to read his books as soon as they came out. Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining (which was brilliant), The Stand (which is my all time Stephen King favorite), Christine, Pet Cemetary, It, and Misery. Now these books contain what I call that Stephen King flair. He has a way of making you think that all these things are indeed possible and could happen to you. And the clinchers he puts in these books is beautifully done. ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Stephen King in general

King's knowledge of the horror genre really shows. Favou. - Advantages: Great storyteller with a huge body of work, Writes about marginalised groups, His books are connected by themes - childhood, companionship, isolation, Maine, the fifties and now Vietnam - Disadvantages: Too much horror for some - not enough for others , Very long books!, With such a big back catalogue - some of his books are real lemons
