Books have changed so much since my day, never did we have the delights they have now of excellent illustrations, touch and feel and even now they do scratch and sniff books. This is a touch and feel book and designed for the younger children. The book is made of very stiff cardboard so can withstand a little bit of baby chewing. Although I must admit my youngest is not left alone with a library book for that reason.

The cover is very eye catching with a picture of Kipper on the front cuddling a hen with one hand and the other placed around a large sky blue speckled egg.

The first page introduces you to Kipper the dog (sorry I forgot to say he was a dog) and here you can touch his black ears which feel like they are made out of a soft felt material.

On the second page you will find Kipper looking puzzled over the egg he has just found. Your young children will now get the idea that on every page you will feel something different. The egg feels fairly smooth but makes a scratchy sort of noise.

Kipper then meets a hen and thinks it must be her egg. This page has a hen with a few chicks scattered around her. The hen has a large yellow feather in the centre of her tummy for the children to touch and stroke. It’s a nice idea although after a couple of book reads I cannot imagine that the feather will still be there or what condition it will be in.

Kipper is still confused as to what could be inside this large blue egg. Kipper thinks it could be a nice fluffy chick, and on this page your child can stoke the tummy’s of five different chicks. The material on this page is yellow fur.

The last page gives you the answer as to what the egg contained and it was a

DINOSAUR.

A small green dinosaur and here you can meet his mother and rub her rubber patterned back.

Well that’s the end. I know it sounds a bit on the boring side but the book is designed to get young
er children interested in books. The touch and feel books are really good to get them feeling different textures and noises they make. By making these kind of books gets the children to study the pages better. The book is priced at £4.99, which is now an average price range, for these types of books. I would definitely recommend it for children 1+ and it would make yet another ideal Christmas present.
