Play Dead - Richard Montanari

Crowned Review Playing Dead with Ludo (988 words)
by i_am_joy - written on 10/04/09 (Very useful, 215 readings)
Rating:

I have read a couple of novels by Richard Montanari and enjoyed them so was happy to see a copy of his latest, Play Dead, in the library. The novel features detectives Kevin Byrne and Jessica Balzano, they have been partners for some years now although Byrne is his usual enigmatic self and seems intent on keeping his partner at arms length. The storyline is very simple. While investigating a cold case Byrne and Balzano receive new information relating to the original crime, as is expected a serial killer is on the loose. He is targeting young runaways to star in his new fatal magic show, when the detectives put two and two together they realise he is going to murder ...

The Skin Gods - Richard Montanari

Premium Review Just Who IS The Actor? (862 words)
by chrisandmark - written on 24/10/06 (Very useful, 130 readings)
Rating:

I’ve wanted to read The Skin Gods by Richard Montanari since first reading a brief synopsis a few months ago, and now I’ve read it I’m so glad I did. The basic premise of the story is that someone is terrorising Philadelphia; a madman is committing murders based on famous murder scenes in movies, he’s filming the murders and splicing his grisly home movies into rental copies of the movie he’s recreated. When a student finds ‘The Actor’s’ (as Philadelphia cops dub him) debut movie, which recreates the world famous shower scene in Psycho, in a video rental store he immediately takes it to the police and it’s here the fun begins. What follows is a murder spree taking ...

The Skin Gods - Richard Montanari

Premium Review Into character. Into frame. Into legend. (349 words)
by KKSlider1337 - written on 09/09/08 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

this was that it could occassionally get confusing as with each new chapter you d have to readjust to the style and character it was now talking about. This is a minor gripe though. One of the best parts of the book unsurprisingly is the end; the book progressively gets better and by the end I found it very hard to put down; it has such an exciting climax. Overall I highly recommend this book and plan to read others in the series by Richard ...
