Advantages: Excellent Story, Well Written, Popular so Easy to Buy
Disadvantages: A Bit Graphic in Places
Even if you've never heard of the popular crime thriller writer James Patterson, you might still have heard the title of this book 'Kiss the Girls'. That's because it's a really well known film starring Morgan Freeman. And that film was the reason I first read anything by James Patterson actually. I would say before continuing with the review though that it's important to understand that the book and the film are a bit different - the film is only based on the book after all.
The story basically revolves around a pair of serial killers who are in some kind of sick competition with one another. Detective Alex Cross is on the case because this time it's personal - one of them has his niece. I should warn potential readers that this isn't your average thriller. It's really quite graphic and full of all kinds of descriptions, including slightly unsettling sexual ones. As a Father, a few bits regarding rape did make my stomach skip a bit I have to admit but then it's important to remember that this is fictional.
The readability factor of this book is excellent. I found the story really easy to read with loads happening on every page. In fact apart from the disturbing bits that put me off a little bit, everything else made me want to keep on turning the pages. There were several nights when I was laying bed reading for two or three hours at a go when really I should have been asleep! I don't think it's right to tell everyone the storyline when you review a book so I think it's best just to say that there are loads of little twists and turns as the story progresses. The bottom line is, one thing you can't call this book is boring.
If you've never read this book then I recommend it. But that's only if you love a really graphic novel and have a well-lined stomach to take the horrific details contained in some of the pages.
