***Why I read Kiss the Girls***

James Patterson is one of my long time favourite authors. I have now read lots of his books and I especially like his Alex Cross franchise.

I had read this book quite a while before I saw the film of the same name starring Morgan Freeman (as Alex Cross) and Ashley Judd (as Kate McTieren) released in 1997.

This was actually one of his first books that I read, it was recommended by my fiancee and now we share the same taste in books, so much so we have got lots of duplicate books because neither of us will wait for the other to read his new releases!

***The story***

Basically without giving too much away Cross (lead character) joins forces with the local police when his niece is identified as missing.

Cross is a well respected police detective, criminologist and profiler, but his reputation does not impress the local police who are reluctant to use his expertise.

What later comes to light is that their is in fact a serial killer on the loose who has kidnapped several exceptional women. Unfortunately for them 'Cassanova' as he answers to is building his own collection and the women must obey and fulfill their masters every wish or pay an awful price.

Unluckily for the killer he makes one fatal mistake when he kidnaps doctor Kate McTieren, one women who disobeys his rules and fights to survive.

After suffering a terrible ordeal Kate escapes and with the help of Cross she must then piece together what or who held her captive and save the remaining girls. But is the killer working alone?

*** In my opinion***

Kiss the girls is an intriguing novel and I could not put the book down once I started, I actually finished it in a few days, which is quite quick for me with the number of hours I work!

I think you will find that Patterson's novels are easy to read and can in fact be read in any order as the stories are pretty easy to catch up on.

In my opinion this book is fantastic, its not a horror book, it is in fact a crime thriller. Patterson sucks you in at the start of the book and keeps you hooked throughout. For me the pace of the book picks up quite quickly and continues throughout.

I think that you really get chance to know the characters and I found I built my own picture in my head of what they were like. Even though you feel like you know the characters you still find yourself doubting if they could be the one!

I did not guess who the killer was until the end and I personally think the book threw enough red herrings to keep me guessing. Patterson loves his twists and turns so prepare to be amazed and intrigued.

The story is fresh and in my opinion I was gripped throughout the book. A fantastic read with a brilliant writer. In fact I have read it several times and will continue to do so.

The film is also brilliant but the book is actually by far a lot better. Definately a good investment.

Summary: Easy to read and excellent story

There's the base of a good review here, but it's just too short to give me enough detail about the book!
