Advantages: Conatins a good amount of information

Disadvantages: Way too many quotes

Kylie, story of a survivor is a book which has been written about the Princess of Pop by Virginia Blackburn.

The book is a hardback and has a paper sleeve jacket. The front of the book is a purple colour with a picture of Kylie dressed as a showgirl on stage with the title in pink / purple lettering at the bottom. The back cover of the book has a picture of Kylie when she has her short hair after her battle with cancer.

THE BOOK

The book consists of 18 chapters starting at the beginning giving us some details about where she was born and her family.

It then moves on to tell about how she landed her role as Charlene in Neighbours and how she dealt with the amount of fame that came with the part.

There is some talk about her relationship with fellow star Jason Donovan and it does confirm that the two were in fact an item.

There is also a bit of information about the sibling rivalry between herself and Danni which is quite interesting.

We are told how she made it in the music business and how hard she worked to stay there.

There is a whole chapter about her relationship with Michael Hutchinson and how he influenced her life, turning her from young shy Charlene to sex symbol and party girl.

We hear about the phase of her life when she tried to bring her music into a different direction and how she failed in doing so, this resulted in her going back to her pop roots.

There is a lot of talk about her relationships and speculation into why none of them lasted, this is believed to be because she works far too hard.

The book moves on to then talk about her suffering with Cancer and reveals quite a bit about her and what she went through.

The book ends on a positive note telling about her brave comeback after her cancer battle.

MY OPINION

I didn't go out of my way to buy this book, I did in fact buy it as it was a great price in my local Wilkinson's store and I do like to be nosey and read about people.

The book is quite informative and I did learn a few new things about kylie which I did not know before reading.

I would have liked the book more if it had in fact been written by Kylie herself as the book is filled with quotes from family and friends which I did find a bit off putting and I am never too sure whether to fully believe what I am reading.

The book is very easy to follow starting at the beginning of her life and ending with her comeback after her fight with cancer.

I did find that the quotes which were included from Kylie about her battle with breast cancer were very inspiring and she was genuine in what she said and felt.

There are a few pages containing some very nice photographs ranging from a young Kylie with her family to recent photos of her with famous people.

INFO

The book was written by Virginia Blackburn and published in2007 by John Blake Publishing limited.

The retail price for the book is £17.99 but I got my copy from my local Wilkinson's shop for £2.99 which I feel is a bargain.

I would recommend this book for all fans if you are able to get it for a good price like I did but I would not pay full price for this as I feel it should have been written by herself and not somebody else just using quote and quote.

Summary: A good book written about the Princess of Pop

Great review. Although I can say from reading your review that this book is nowhere near accurate. And its just a bit tacky. I think Kylie's cancer has been milked to death by the media.
