Introduction Ed McBain is one of the best known US writers of police procedurals and I've read a number of his books over the years. He has written a number of books in this particular series, all of which revolve around the lives and jobs of the police officers of the 87th Precinct, based in a fictional city. The books usually revolve around a particular crime that is seemingly impossible to solve and describes the officers' painstaking attempts to get to the truth. The series began in 1956 and only ended on his death in 2005.
