Introduction Ed McBain is one of the best known US writers of police procedurals and I've read a number of his books over the years. He has written a number of books in this particular series, all of which revolve around the lives and jobs of the police officers of the 87th Precinct, based in a fictional city. The books usually revolve around a particular crime that is seemingly impossible to solve and describes the officers' painstaking attempts to get to the truth.
