Lake Tanganyika contains the most unique and diverse range of freshwater fish of any lake on the planet. Many are from the cichlid family (over two hundred), most of which are endemic so found nowhere else on earth. Although many studies have been performed at Lake Tanganyika, the lake's size (420 miles long!) means that many have yet to be described by science.
