Italian Phrase Book - Pietro Giorgetti:
... love books; I just don t normally buy them as I tend to read them and then cast them to one side. Even with academic books, I like to loan the book first, get a taste of it and then decide whether its worth splashing the silvers on. But about a year ago, I decided it would be useful to read up on a bit of basic Italian before I started my long and arduous 4-year uni course. The dilemma I had was there were so ma... Berlitz Turkish Phrase Book and Dictionary ... dooyooers, im finally back after a tough time trying to sort out a few thing for uni ...rather excited i may add lol but here we go with a new review of a product i used on my trip to Turkey during the summer. I did not purchase this book, I borrowed it from the local library, which I would probably recommend doing if your just going to visit Turkey for a short break and want a few handy phrases as the book can vary in price from place to place but is usually around 6 pound which if you borrow the book is 6 pound more you can spend on your holiday. However, I feel this is an excellent product and if you do wish to purchase it, this is deffinatley worth the money as... Read the full review: Merhaba!!! by loulou129 |

Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation - Lynne Truss ... Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss is a book about the history of punctuation, why it is so important to get it correct, and chapters dedicated to each symbol (comma, dash, apostrophe etc...). Being an exceptionally militant pedant or stickler as Lynne Truss describes us, it was a relief and a joy to find that a.) someone had taken the time to write a book about the subject that is approachable enough for the average layman b.) 3 million copies (at the time of print) of the book had already been sold worldwide - this leaves me with the distant hope that the message may get across to more people. She tackles subjects such as the Oxford comma and excessive use ... Read the full review: The Pedants Definitive Guide. by RU5H1NG |

Das Boot - Lothar-Günther Buchheim ... is it about losing a war that makes for such good literature? This is not meant as a flippant remark, but offered as a genuine observation. All Quiet on the Western Front - probably the greatest (anti) war novel of all time - was written by an ex-German soldier, and Das Boot was also penned by a German author with experience of active service in World War II. Perhaps directly experiencing the bitterness of defeat helps an author to capture fully the misery and suffering of war, rather then looking at the "glamour" of victory. Whatever the reason, if you are a fan of "real" war literature (and not "boys own adventures" featuring "... Read the full review: Sub Standard? by SWSt |
