Advantages: wonderfully illustrated, great story, comical moments, easy to read and follow

Disadvantages: none

Terry Pratchett is a fantasy writer that delivers. Over 30 novels in various forms have traced the lives of those who inhabit the Discworld (which is incidentally on top of four elephants who are riding on top of Great A'tuin who is a giant turtle).

This particular delivery is a fable, pulling characters from other novels together into a wonderfully fully illustrated story.

As with most of the Discworld novels, there is 2 story's running side by side throughout.

--- Cohen The Barbarian & The Horde ---

Cohen The Barbarian is the last of the heroes on the Discworld and as such he feels it is his duty to return to the gods what the first hero stole. The problem is that what he plans to return, will in fact end the Discworld and destroy everything else with it.

Along the way we also encounter Cohen's favourite villain Evil Harry who is a sworn Dark Lord that will do everything to keep up his reputation as evil.

--- Rincewind & The Kite ---

Leonard is a great inventor on the Discworld and upon finding out about Cohens plans to destroy the Discworld, Lord Vetinari orders Leonard to work out a way to stop him before he kills everyone.

The plan goes along the lines of, we fly off the Discworld, all the way under it, around the other side and land on Cori Celesti (or 'Dunmanifestin', where the Gods live) to stop Cohen. A fine plan you'll admit?, unfourtunatley it is one that has many problems along the way which are just as comical as all other Discworld novels.

--- Audience ---

Great for newcomers and educated Discworld readers alike. Being shorter than most the novels this is easier to digest, with bigger print and images wonderfully created by Paul Kidby using a range of digital imaging and sketches to bring the Discworld to life.

--- Summary ---

A wonderful fable that truly has laugh out loud moments but also holds together a wonderful story of determination and the hapless Rincewind who once again gets dragged along for the ride.

Finally someone answers the question in this fable, can you cheat Fate?

Summary: A wonderful fable that truly has laugh out loud moments but also holds together a wonderful story
