... for example. It certainly took me a lot longer to read than many other books of similar, or even greater length. Yet, persevere with it, and it is a very rewarding read. The subject matter is fascinating and clearly very well researched. My knowledge of the events of this period are very limited (I was only a young whipper-snapper at the time!), but at no time did I feel as if I was struggling to understand what was going on, so good was Foden's re-telling of the key events of the era.. Having watched Forrest Whittaker's compelling portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland, I recently came across the book in a second hand shop. Interested in how it compared with the film, I decided to buy it. In some ways, it's interesting, if a little unfair, to compare the two. Books, inevitably, can take more time than films in allowing events to unfold, and initially, the book does not come off well. It seems to take an eternity for anything interesting to happen.
