Having watched Forrest Whittaker's compelling portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland, I recently came across the book in a second hand shop. Interested in how it compared with the film, I decided to buy it. In some ways, it's interesting, if a little unfair, to compare the two. Books, inevitably, can take more time than films in allowing events to unfold, and initially, the book does not come off well. It seems to take an eternity for anything interesting to happen.
