After reading the Devil Wears Prada and Chasing Harry Winston i have fallen in love with Lauren Weisberger's books and her style and this one did not disappoint, they are such girly reads they are perfect for those lazy afternoons.
The book follows the main character Brooke, she is married to her husband Julian and they live together in New York. She works with young people who have eating disorders helping them get better. Her husband works as a musician trying to break into the industry.
Julian is soon discovered and they are both thrown into the limelight, being followed by press, attending exclusive parties and being surrounded by rumors of Brookes husband cheating and being unfaithful. We see how everything Julian once wished for turn into Brookes nightmare.
I love the book its full of twists and turns keeping you engaged the whole way through. I feel it is something every can easily connect to we have all been in the situation where a loved one has needed our support and we are tying to do everything in our path to make it happen, so we can associate with some of the emotions Brooke feels. I would recommend this book as its a light hearted read perfect for holidays and just general relaxation.
I have read all the books by this author and I would this the first book by Lauren - The Devil Wears Prada as 1 of my all time favourite books (shame about the movie of it). This book is my 2nd favourite from this author.
The book centres around a woman called Brooke. Brooke is married to Julian and they live a nice life in New York. Brooke works as a Nutritionist which she enjoys and she gets on well with the young girls who come to see her with eating problems who think they are ugly and fat. Brooke is busy as she is working 2 jobs due to her husband Julian being a struggling Musician. He's a great singer and Musician - according to Brooke, and Brooke heard him singing 1 time and that's how they ended up together. Brooke doesn't seem to mind being the breadwinner as she loves Julian and supports him fully. They are just waiting on Julian hitting the big time and then there life would be so good .... or would it?
Suddenly it happens. Julian is discovered by a Music Executive and finally Julian gets the recognition that he has been waiting all these years for. Suddenly Julian is thrust into the Limelight and this take off pretty quickly. Brooke is happy that her husband is getting all the attention that he has been looking for all those years.
But is the new lifestyle that comes with Celebrity all that it is cracked up to be? Brooke find out the bad side of fame quite quickly. She is followed by the press and also there is many a magazine reporting that Julian has been up to no good with people. Can Brooke believe all the gossip that is going on?
I found this book to be really readable and I kept wanting to find out what happened next in this book. I think the story is told well as we see the life through Brooke's eyes and we see a woman who is happy and supportive of her husband as well as proud of him. Brooke is trying to keep her life normal as she is still working but Julian keeps wanting her to drop her life and merge into his new fantastic life, and although Brooke would love to be there every step of the way with him then she still likes her normal life as well I feel.
I feel that it is easy to understand the sadness and frustrations of Brooke, and I have read this book a few times as I like it.
A good book and worth a read if you like The Devil wears prada or Sophie Kinsella books.
