At first glance, this could be mistaken as a longer version of the excellent Mrs Shakespeare. The differences are in both approach, and scope. Mrs Shakespeare, written from the viewpoint of the honest, shrewish Anne Hathaway is focussed on a particular episode, offering a new view of the sparse facts from the bard's life. This, penned by a former boy actor, is a biography composed of anecdotes, rumours and legends. The narrator, Robert Reynolds (or Pickleherring), writes in part to find the Shakespeare behind this myth. Yet, as he shows the reader, these aspects are all tied to the subject.
