Poor Paul Daniels... I've never felt any sympathy for this unfunny magician before. But as the victim of one of numerous hysterical and silly pranks played by the hero of this brilliant novel, he deserves an honourable mention. Jay is 18 and his father is a senior executive in the BBC, so his address book is full of the home numbers of the rich and famous. So who can blame young Jay for calling celebs at all hours to insult them or ask increasingly daft questions.
