Richard Laymon will always be one of my favourite horror authors-though his novels were always written in a completely diffrent style,he was certainly on a par with Dean Koontz or Stephen King in my mind. Many of his novels, though supernatural in nature, dealt more with how his characters responded to what was going on than than to the actual event itself and there was always a strong focus on the characters' relationships with each other that persisted through most of his fiction. Examples of this can be found in FUNLAND for example, where much of the book is concerned with the dynamics and rivalries between a group of teenagers who terrorise the ... Read the complete review

From the 1st Laymon I ever read (Night Show) until the last (The Halloween Mouse) never have I read a Richard Laymon book and though anything other than...Wow! A fantastic author with a wide range of books to suit any avid reader of the genre. If you've never read a Laymon then I'd advise you to go out today and buy one, or borrow one from the Library, read it and pass it on to someone else. The reviews on here are very honest and varied, well worth the time to read before deciding which Laymon to read. Richard Laymon was a brilliant horror writer. Sadly he died of a heart attack in february of this year, and frankly, with an imagination like his, I'm not terribly surprised. From a purely selfish point of view, my first reaction upon finding out about his untimely (he was only in his forties) was: NO!!! He won't write any more books! This may give you some indication of how enjoyable his books are. Richard Laymon's books tend to be set in and around the Calafornia area of America, though this is not set in stone. The books can be very violent as they tend to concern characters who carry out acts of murder in one twisted way or another; if you hate ... Read the complete review

If your into Stephen King Books, you will find instant liking of all Richard Layman books too. As far as I am aware there are about 40 of his books already in print. They all have their own merits, but i've not found one that dissapointed me yet. Its such a shame that Richard Layman died in February this year, but I am told that there are plenty more books yet to be published that he has written before he died. Such as No Sanctuary later on this year. His books are becoming increasingly more difficult to get hold of, some of them are in current print if you order them at your local bookshop. There are also two ... Read the complete review

When is someone gonna turn one of his books into a good old fashioned slasher movie? - Advantages: suspense, horror, great characters - Disadvantages: I've read 'em all and want more new stuff!
