Rayford Steele is an airline pilot. Approaching middle age, he lives in middle American suburbia and has become disenchanted with his job. He has drifted away from his wife who has been spending increasing periods of time at Church and quoting the Bible at him. He has a rebellious twenty year old daughter – Chloë – and a twelve year old son upon whom he dotes. On a routine overnight transatlantic flight to London, Captain Steele is idling away the hours considering whether to arrange a tryst with his senior stewardess – Hattie Durham. They have exchanged flirtatious glances and hints for some time but had not done anything more about it. Before he ... Read the complete review

The background..... The first thing that you nnotice when you pick up a copy of this book (or are given one as a gift, as happened to me) is that it actually has two authors who live in different parts of the US.. Dr LaHaye (www.timlahaye.com) is an academic expert on biblical and prophetic studies - that is to say he's an expert on biblical ' end time ' predictions, and Mr Jenkins (www.jerryjenkins.com) is actually the novelist. Tim had the original idea and his agent put him in touch with Jerry. Left Behind was first published by Tyndale House in 1995 and they have just released a special 10th anniversary edition of the novel. It was ... Read the complete review

‘In one cataclysmic moment, millions around the globe disappear.....’ Who were they? Where did they go? Why did they go? Are they coming back? Why were prosthesis and wigs left on seats along with piles of crumpled clothes? Why were women on delivery tables suddenly empty? Where were all the children gone? An intriguing start to an absorbing tale of mystery, confusion and discovery where the pace is exhilarating and the characters are really brought to life. Although this is a novel based on the earth’s last days as prophesied in the Bible and the authors interpretation of scriptures, it would appeal to anyone regardless of whether they were ... 'Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days', is the first book in a series of sixteen, by authors Tim LaHaye (also a minister) and Jerry B. Jenkins. The cover of the book is simple but striking (and the rest of the 'Left Behind' series follows with similarly themed covers) with the title and author's names in bold letters, against a mainly black backdrop, apart from a flash of orange where we see a faint image of the earth. The story centres around the sudden disappearance of millions of people across the world; unborn babies vanish from their mother's wombs, all children are taken, and millions of adults inexplicably fade away, leaving behind ...
