Advantages: Well written
Disadvantages: Depressing
This is the first book in a whole series of books by the joint authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins.
The story begins in a plane high above the skies of the U.S.A, Rayford Steele is the pilot in charge of the plane.
Rayford is married to religous nut and has a young son who lives at home and a daughter who is away at college.
Something happens on his flight where half of the passengers and some of the crew have vanished leaving behind their clothing and personal effects.
The plane is thrown into panic and on landing they discover the whole world has been affected in the same way.
Most of the dissapeared are God fearing folk which leads the World to the conclussion that thay have been taken in the Rapture and that the World is now in its last phase before the coming of the Anti Christ.
On the plane is Buck Williams a newspaper reporter who befriends Steele and sets about discovering the reasoning behind the dissapearences.
Neither Buck nor Steele are paricularly religous people so struggle with the Rapture theory.
This is a great novel and I have now read up to the third book, it does make you think about biblical issues.
It is a thriller as well as trying to give the reader a bit of the old bible bashing at the same time.
They have sold over 11 million copies of these books in the series.
There are 16 novels to date in the seies so ive got quite a bit of reading to go.
I find the nature of the novel a bit depressing so its best to read small chunks at a time.
I quite enjoyed this book I must admit.
352 pages of thought provoking stuff.
