If you don’t know who Gary Nelson is then that’s roughly the point of the biography. Its all about life and football in the unglamorous lower leagues. Charlton Athletic is the club in question that predominates in this brilliant portrayl;a off the journeyman pro. The author is not your typical player and is alarmingly erudite at times when describing the profession from apprentice to one-year contract jobber. He has three A-level s and is part of a very small number of pros with academic outside interests so to speak.
