Advantages: Interesting Sci-fi book, brilliant storylines, many books in the "series".
Disadvantages: Some complicated language, not so much for younger readers.
Douglas Adams - Life, the universe and Everything.
This book was published in 1982 by Pan Books, Douglas Adams book "the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was recently created into a film which for me left a lot to be desired; unlike this book which was brilliant.
The main character, Arthur Dent, wakes up in Prehistoric Earth. He is joined by Ford Prefect, an odd organic lifeform and other intriguing characters. Douglas Adams has worked really hard on little details that many readers would not notice, for example the PJ's worn by Arthur and the Towel carried by Ford are stuck firmly on the minds of anyone who enjoys these books, the way in which the characters are impacted upon us really helps to make the book a better read. Its a brilliant Sci-fi/fantasy book and Adams is a brilliant writer.
Arthur and Ford don't want to save the Universe because they don't care about anything but going to parties, but they have to try to save it because they hitched a lift in a spaceship belonging to Slartibartfast, the man responsible for saving the universe. The story is about the problems they encounter and the weird characters they meet along the way, this makes for a interesting plod, if not a little bit too weird at times.
It is a funny book, which i think is written for adults, it is suitable for some younger readers but probably not so much under the age of 13 . Some of the jokes are written in demanding vocabulary, but Douglas Adams keeps it simple wherever possible.
Here is a list of other Douglas Adams books; Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, So Long and thanks for all the Fish. Every one of these books in my opinion are good reads, even my old man remembers the original TV series and the book, so perhaps even a classic??
Summary: I am a fan of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy all his books are worth a look at for sure.
