... very few novels mention breast cancer- or if they do, they do not handle this theme properly. If you read my previous reviews you will see that the one thing I look for in books and/or films is the handling of realism. I liked this particular book very much because of the way that Danielle Steel depicted the impact of such news upon a family, how the husband copes with it, the effect it has upon the children, and the emotional pressure for the patient herself. I believe that this one book will please cancer p...more

Lightning is another very well chosen name for her story as you will see later. Alexandra is a senior partner in a very successful law firm, she is struggling at times to manage to split her time between her very demanding career, her husband and the child born unexpectedly late in her life. After going to her doctors for a routine medical check, lightning strikes, in just a few seconds her life is turned upside down and her world as she new it torn apart by the news that she has cancer. Premium Review A cancer-striken woman has to face the outcome of this disea ... (444 words)

This is one of my favourite Danielle Steel novels. I really do believe that this is literary art in its perfection. Everything about this book pleased me- from the characters, to the incidents, the plot, the twists and turns, as well as the suspense. There are very few novels which combine suspense, romance and drama well, but I believe that this book certainly does justice to Steel's reputation as a best-selling author. The plot centers around the life of Alexandra, whose nearly perfect life is brusquely interrupted by a tragic event as she is diagnosed with breast cancer. I particularly appreciated Danielle Steel's element of cancer in one of her novels ...  Read the complete review

Why do I say that? Well, I was surprised too when I was sitting in Nursing Lectures one day, and the lecturer asked for a show of hands on who had read this book - we were all a little confused until she explained to us that it describes in great detail, how it feels to be someone who has cancer - to all of a sudden have something like that dropped upon you, to have to spend time in hospital, an alien environment to most people. Following her recommendation, and just out of plain curiosity, I bought the book, and fell in love with it. The story tells of Alexandra Parker, a woman who has it all - a great job, a husband and a beautiful daughter - then ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Steel as brilliant as ever!! (236 words)

Although this has been out for a few years now, I feel this book is definately worth a mention! As usual Danielle writes this story with great heart felt passion! It centers around the main character Alexandra, who seemingly has the perfect lifestyle of a devoted family and a great career until it is shattered apart with one single bolt of lightening! TRADEGY!!! Which we know Danielle is famous for in all her books. It contains her usual form of everything is great, then everything goes wrong then everything is right again! But this book stuck in my mind for ages after as it tackled the difficult subject of breast cancer, one of the great fears for all ...  Read the complete review
