Advantages: Gives you a insight of what really goes on in the poor areas in the world

Disadvantages: Makes you take a look at how well of we are

A little about about the author.

The author Phra Peter Pannapadipo was known as Peter Robinson, When Peter became forty years old, he went on a package holiday to Thailand. Whilst Peter was there, he became fascinated by the feelings of tranquility he found there. He visited Buddhist temples and Monasteries and became fascinated with them.

When he returned to England he became determined to find out more, this is where his journey of discovery began.

Peter then became a Buddhist monk five years later. At his ordination he was given the chaya or religious name of Phra Peter Pannapadipo

I suggest you read "An English Monk in Thailand" by Phra Peter Pannapadipo this book tells you all about his journey to becoming a monk.

The book

It really makes you take a look around at your surroundings and see how lucky you really are. This book reflects the life's of young novice monks.

The stories are of 10 young boys from very poor backgrounds, and have come from very poor areas in Thailand. Each story has something different, covering many heartbreaking problems from abusive parents, drugs, drink, and even a loss of a parent. They are mostly from the farming community in Thailand where they are made to work in the rice fields as soon as they can walk and carry things.

I don't want to go too much into the stories as this would spoil the book for you

some of the young boys in the stories are as young as 10 and where taking drugs just to get by, There is a history of children as young as 10 sent to Bangkok to work on building sites for money to send home.

When there lives become so bad, as one of the stories I read, where a young boy nearly dies, they turn towards Buddhism as a last resort and it becomes there only hope of survival.

I must admit this book made me look at things differently.

I read this whilst on my holiday and I actually read it again when I got back. And I have just started to read Phra Peter Pannapadipo other book

If you want a different way of looking at Thailand & Buddhism please read this great book

Thanks for reading my reviews, and thankyou for rating them.
