I have a habit of judging books by their cover, but I now blame the fact that I am an illustrator...and that I love picture books. The was the first work of Gris Grimly's I had ever encountered (thankfully there are tons more as well as this) and I fell in love with it instantly...so much so that I had read it through twice before I got home! This story uses a journey sequence, and told completely in rhyme (Roald Dahl style you might say) follows the path of Little Jordan Ray, the son of a starving farmer and his wife, who sets out into the wilderness with nothing more than his family's last potato to sell for the best offer.
