== The New Library ==

The Mr Men and Little Miss classic library's played a big part in my reading as a child and I was on all counts a huge Mr Men fan. To be perfectly honest I still am a big fan but my enthusiasm for the Mr Men and Little Miss was so much greater in the late 90's than it is now. For that reason it is probably no surprise for you to hear that when in 1998 Roger Hargreaves' son Adam Hargreaves released a new story library that told new stories about existing characters I was more than eager to collect the books.

The original Little Miss and Mr Men library has fully white covers and white spines, their popularity laid in their uniqueness but in order to distinguish the new library from the old one Adam Hargreaves created the covers with a pink (or blue) stripe down the left hand front side and right hand back side. I say pink (or blue) because the Little Miss were pink and the Mr Men blue. 'Were' however is the operative word as when I have seen the books lately all of them have had a blue stripe down them - don't ask me what the reasoning behind this is.

== Book 3 ==

The Little Miss 'new' library consists of 12 stories with the fourth one, the one I am now going to review, being about Little Miss Bossy and subsequently titled Little Miss Bossy and the magic word. The front cover of the book has a picture of Little Miss Bossy - with her mouth open as usual - shouting at a poor little worm. The picture itself is brilliant as it captures Little Miss Bossy's character very feel and provides a starting point for story discussion. The back of the book is then full of much smaller pictures of all the other books in the Mr Men and Little Miss new story library's. This is a brilliant feature because it makes it easy to spot which books you haven't already read and therefore which one to go out and purchase next.

== The Plot ==

Little Miss Bossy is bossier than the bossiest person you know and she is also very, very rude. She delights in shouting at Mr Sneeze to stop sneezing, loves to tell Little Miss Chatterbox to shut up and revels in telling Mr Small to grow up. Poor Mr Sneeze. Poor Little Miss Chatterbox. Poor Mr Small. As you can imagine they aren't very happy and that is why Mr Small pays Little Miss Magic a visit to see if she can help. Over a thimble of tea Mr Small explains the problem and Little Miss Magic agrees to teach Little Miss Bossy a lesson.

The following day Little Miss Bossy bumped into Mr Greedy but when she poked him in the stomach and told him that he was too big and had to lose some weight, she found that he was simply laughing at her. Why? Because she had ballooned in size and was now much bigger than he. Little Miss Bossy's lesson was beginning but would she head its warning.

== My Opinion ==

Little Miss Bossy is a fantastic character to read about and provides so many discussion topics for parents and children. The book itself is a lovely one to read and both entertains and teaches at the same time, which is always a benefit with children's books.

The traditional format of text on the left hand side and pictures on the right hand side also makes sure that there is always something to engage the attention of small children. The pictures themselves are very bright and colourful, rather like the character, and make it far easier to discuss the story than it otherwise would be.

This book is one of my favourites in the Little Miss 'new' library and probably the one that has been read the most since it was purchased. It is one that really fits the character and seamlessly joins the collection of wonderful children's stories. The character within is bright and colourful and the story one that is entertaining and humorous yet quick and simple to read.

Summary: A lovely addition to the collection

My daughter has a complete collection which we read regularly and she loves this one. I think she likes the fact she gets her comeuppance!
