Advantages: A cute looking character

Disadvantages: A rather odd ending

Re-reading my Mr Men and Little Miss collection for the purpose of giving honest reviews to dooyoo has really made me realise how fantastic this collection of books truly is. Obviously I knew before re-reading them that the Mr Men and Little Miss stories would always be my favourite books but I never realised how brilliant they were and never really took much notice of how much both me and my younger have read these books during our childhood.

These facts alone should be a testimony as to why you should purchase not only the book I am going to review but also all the others in this series written by Roger Hargreaves and his son Adam. If this however isn't enough for you then please do read on and I'm sure that once you've read this review you too will soon find yourself a Mr Men and Little Miss fan.

The Mr Men series began in 1971 and the Little Miss series in 1981. Quickly the books back popular favourites and d now the original collection consists of 76 books, the Little Miss collection making up 33 of these. There is also a new collection, which consists of 24 books, 12 Mr Men and 12 Little Miss and a glittery collection of new stories has also been released. Little Miss Curious is number 27 in the original collection and was first published in 1990.

Little Miss Curious' story begins by telling us that Little Miss Curious is a very curious sort of person and that she wants to know the how, why and what of everything. One day Little Miss Curious set off for town and on her way she asked her front door, the flowers in her garden and a worm questions. Why? Well just because she's curious.

When she arrived in town she headed straight for the library and walked up to the desk. The librarian, Mrs Page, asked her what she was looking for and Little Miss Curious answered. What did she answer I here you all say. Well we are curious aren't we; you'll have to read the book to find out.

This story is a great starter book for children, as it is simple yet not too simplistic and is a joy to both read and listen too. The writing is large enough and each page isn't packed with writing, as to put off a less than confident young reader. In my opinion this book as well as the others in the series are great for helping children learn to read as they introduce reading as something fun and because the writing isn't oversimplified it won't put off more confident readers.

Furthermore the book is constant throughout with writing on the left hand side and pictures on the right. These pictures themselves are fantastic, as they are fantastically colourful and at times quite amusing. I can certainly see why when I was little I used to love looking at the pictures whilst my mum or dad read the book to me.

The book itself is small, square and white in colour. In the centre of the front cover is a very jolly picture of Little Miss Curious, who is a round orange character with bright yellow hair tied up in a question mark shape. In my opinion she is quite a cute looking character and this may be part of her appeal. Above this picture is her name in block, black capitals and on the back of the book are smaller pictures of all the other characters with their names and numbers written below them so that you can easily keep track of which you have yet to buy and read.

Now although I love the Little Miss books I can't say that this is one of my favourites and that is because the ending of the story is a little strange and in many ways I'm not really sure it has an ending, which therefore makes the book a little odd in my opinion. Saying this however I'm near enough certain that I enjoyed reading it as a child and so I presume that other children will too.

Either way this book is still a good addition to the Little Miss collection. It can be purchased readily from all good bookshops, the majority of supermarkets and online. Its RRP is £2.50 but it can easily be purchased for less if you shop around.

Summary: Add it to the collection
