Advantages: Great kids' book

Disadvantages: None

I have to say, I am more a fan of the Mr Men books than the Little Miss books, but being a male, that I am sure is quite normal. My son is the same, although we both like the Little Miss books as well. In 1971, Roger Hargreaves created the Mr Men. Ten years later in 1981, he created the Little Miss, and following his death in 1988, his son Adam continued his good work. Within the past decade or so, Adam has created a number of extra stories using Mr Men already created by his father, and Little Miss Lucky and the Naughty Pixies is one of these.

Little Miss Lucky is a timid pink ball with a cloth checkered blue and white hat. In the story, the normally very lucky Little Miss Lucky is hit by a string of bad luck, and she can't seem to work out why. Will she find out why and sort things out or is she destined to become Little Miss Unlucky?

I do like this story, as it examines the flip side of the coin, so to speak, and teaches kids the opposite of lucky: unlucky. The addition of the pixies is quite a nice one, and it helps give a different dimension to the original stories. The illustrations are mostly in keeping with the original ones, vibrant and colourful, and are on the right hand pages, with the writing on the left hand pages.

I recommend all Mr Men and Little Miss books and the extra stories such as this one. They retail for £2.50 but you can get this one from amazon.co.uk currently for £1.60.

Summary: Little Miss Lucky nearly becomes Little Miss Unlucky!
