I like children's books that talk about feelings. Feelings are often hard for a toddler to express and yet they are felt every bit as much by toddlers as they are by you and I. When my son persisted in "being sad" I needed something to help him understand a little more about being sad and being happy. Enter Little Miss Sunshine. The Mr Men and Little Miss series of books by Roger Hargreaves is well known. Whilst many would trumpet them as iconic and the best children's books I fail to share that enthusiasm. Whilst some of the books are ideal for toddlers and pre-schoolers, others seem over complicated. Some teach messages that I like, others ... Read the complete review

The 'Little Miss' books weren't around when I was a young child in the early seventies, but as I remember the Mr Men books with fondess, (particularly Mr Tickle who, indeed, seems to be the favourite of every right thinking person I've met since), I decided to have a look at the Little Miss books to read with my daughter. I wanted a positive smiley book, with the idea, (or straw clutching!), that it might encourage happy smiley behaviour in my toddler. Thus I chose Little Miss Sunshine. I was mildly peturbed therefore when the story opened in Miseryland where all the worms and the birds spend their time sobbing their little hearts out and the King of ... Read the complete review

Re-reading my Mr Men and Little Miss collection for the purpose of giving honest reviews to dooyoo has really reinforced my love for this fantastic collection of books. Obviously I knew before re-reading them that the Mr Men and Little Miss stories would always be my favourite books but I never realised how fantastic they were and never really noticed how much both me and my younger have read these books during our childhood. Now this alone should be a testimony as to why you should purchase not only the book I am going to review but also all the others in this series written by Roger Hargreaves and his son Adam. If isn't however then read on, as I'm sure ... Read the complete review

The Mr Men and Little Miss collection are small enough to pop in a bag and carry around with you. I've found it's always a good idea to have something interesting in your bag. Toddlers tend to get bored in shops, restaurants, waiting rooms... well anywhere they're not charging around having fun really! Little Miss Sunshine is the story of how she visits the most miserable place in the world, Miseryland. In Miseryland the worms are crying, the birds are crying and even the King is crying. Because this is Miseryland, it is the law that smiling, laughing, chuckling and giggling are forbidden. It isn't long before Little Miss Sunshine is arrested for the very ... Read the complete review

Last night we continued with the Little Miss stories for Toby at bedtime, and this recent one was about Little Miss Sunshine. Little Miss Sunshine goes on holiday and as she drives back home in her car she comes across a signpost 'To Miseryland' as she thought that she had never heard of that name before, she took the turning and headed down the road. She came across another sign saying 'You are now entering Miseryland' underneath it it said, Smiling, Laughing, Chuckling, Giggling Forbidden By order of the King. As she entered the land she got arrested for smiling and was taken to the King, The King was crying when she got there, she smiled and the ... Read the complete review
