Advantages: Bright and colourful illustrations

Disadvantages: Writing may be too small for really yougn children

The Little Miss series were a success from the moment they were published and remain firm children's favourites today. The Little Miss series contains 33 books. The first 30 being written by the series' creator Roger Hargreaves and the final three by his son Adam. Little Miss Whoops in number 33 in the series and is one of my favourites.

The front cover of the book is like all the others in the Little Miss series as well as those in the Mr Men series. It is white with the characters name 'Little Miss Whoops' written in block black capitals along the top. Underneath this is a picture of the character in question. Little Miss Whoops is a blue character with a bright pink nose with bandages around her head and tummy.

The back of the book has much smaller pictures of all the other characters in the Little Miss Series with their respective names and numbers underneath them. This is a really good idea in my opinion because it enables you to keep track of which books you own, which you would like to own but more importantly which one you would like to read next.

***THE STORY***

Little Miss Whoops is one of those people that has accidents all of the time and the story begins by telling you some of the accidents that she has and introducing her favourite catchphrase whoops!! The story then continues by telling you that Little Miss Whoops is the sister of Mr Bump who she is on her way to visit. The story then moves to Mr Bump who is looking at his clock and wondering why his sister is late... a whole week late.

The book then progresses by telling you the catalogue of accidents that has made Little Miss Whoops so late. Will Little Miss Whoops ever get to visit her brother?

****MY THOUGHTS****

This book is a brilliant addition to the Little Miss library and is in places quite humorous. The introduction of another popular Mr Men character, Mr Bump, is also brilliant as he is often a favourite character amongst children and so they should recognise him.

Each double page spread within the book contains writing on the left hand side and bright, colourful and amusing pictures on the right hand side. The frequent pictures allow really young children to not only listen to the story but also to follow the story through the wonderfully illustrations. The writing itself is a little small but more than easy enough for adults to read. Children just starting to read however may need a little encouragement but the entertainment value contained within the little books is sure to have them attempting to read them on their own soon enough.

I have always loved the Little Miss books from being small and although Little Miss Whoops was published when I was 13 I bought it straight away as I couldn't afford not to have it in my collection. I'm glad I did as well because my younger brother loved reading it and to be fair so did I.

I would definitely recommend Little Miss Whoops to anyone who has read other Little miss/Mr Men books or for those who are just starting out on the Mr Men journey of discovery. The book is only short so is brilliant for bedtime reading and is sure to amuse everyone involved.

Summary: A fun and short bedtime read
