Advantages: A colourful kiddies book.
Disadvantages: None
Tony Ross has written a whole host of children's books beginning with the title `I Want`. I reckon that most parents and Grandparents hear that phrase regularly and just dread it!
We picked a copy up for a bedtime book when we went to the local library, but lol we had a special reason for picking it up. Amy had recently lost her first tooth, one of the front bottom teeth, she was chuffed to little mint balls when she realised that the `Tooth Fairy` would be coming to collect the tooth and even more excited when she was told that this Fairy was going to leave £1 under her pillow in return for the tooth.
All was going according to plan and then the unthinkable happened!
Her Mum took hold of the tooth while Amy washed her face before bed, then Mum let the tooth slide out of her hand and down the plughole!!!!
Amy was beside herself and Dad had to come to the rescue and undo the trap and thankfully recover the tooth. All was well.
Tony Ross has centred this particular story around the slightly pedantic Princess and her `Royal` teeth. The book is filled with humorous cartoon figures that Amy found really funny. In fact the whole family portrayal is less than flattering! Amy couldn't manage to read many of the words herself but she loved the story, anything to do with naughty Princesses just has to be in the top ten. There is a lot going on in the book at any one time and we managed to get through the entire book without her being bored.
Sometimes I have a job to stay awake when it comes to bedtime stories but there are some distractions, certainly enough to keep you going!
When the tooth goes missing the Princess is beside herself, when it eventually turns up there is laughter all round!
There is a message in this colourful little book, maybe it is one that should stay in the Dentists waiting rooms for the children to look at.
The colourful `Royal` characters make the book, they are far from being beautiful but there is something about them which is appealing.
I have just been taking a look on the Amazon website and have found a few more of Tony Ross` books, there seems to be a set of them that all start their title with `I want` or `I don't Want`.
Dummy Removal,Potty training, Wash My Hands, Go to Hospital and Go To bed are among the other titles, so it seems as if the author is working his way through the traumas of childhood.
The book is aimed at aged 3 and above, if your child likes to be able to enjoy practising reading on their own then they will find this book hard going. But for a bedtime story it is colourful and also funny and comes in at £5.99 with free delivery on Amazon.
Summary: A good colourful childrens stroy book

- 19/02/09 If you ever lose a tooth again, the tooth fairy happily accepts a letter telling her where it is. Sometimes she even leaves a little note of her own! |
