Advantages: Attractive, Flows Well, Easy to Read, Lots of Pictures

Disadvantages: Expensive

This is another product that I just had to suggest to Dooyoo. This book is called the Little Red Train Adventures Storybook and is written by Benedict Blathwayt. It retails at £9.99 and is available from Amazon or from a few other places for between £8 and £12. This is expensive, but if you saw this book in the shops you'd understand why.

It's a big, thick hardback book that's got a lovely colourful front cover featuring a big red train. Inside, there are four adventures that the Little Red Train goes on complete with his driver. What I really like about this storybook is that it's all about the train, with the train being personified a little bit, but without the writing feeling the need to turn the train into a cutesy little cartoon character with a smiley face. He keeps the train a train and just gives him his own storylines and a hint of personality. I like that it lets kids who love trains get involved, without trying to convince them that trains talk and the like!

There are four stories in this book, and each story differs slightly but is focused on the train having a journey and a bit of an adventure. There are some really great rhymes in this book, and some really brilliant original words for the train sounds like "Chuffity" and "Woo-Woo". The grandson loves joining in with all these sorts of sounds and it makes it a bit of a group effort.

Finally, this book has some lovely illustrations in it on every single page. The pages are predominantly covered in these glossy pictures with just two or three lines of text per page. This makes this storybook ideal for youngsters from a little as two years old. I think a lot of boys especially will love this book for quite a few years after that age too.

I know this is an expensive book at £10 but I think it's worth it as a gift for a special occasion. I think a lot of little boys would be happy to find this amongst their birthday or Christmas presents.

Summary: Highly Recommended

The pictures in the little red train books are just amazing - so much going on - they are like little extra stories in themselves, we love them here!
