How to Be a Little Sod - Simon Brett

Premium Review Reminds me of my own little sod . (425 words)
by thehonesttruth - written on 25/01/09 (Very useful, 51 readings)
Rating:

I was given this book just last night by a friend who was having a book shelf clear out - and I finished it this morning, thinking 'I wish I'd read this as a new mum.' Most parents, at some point, will have had one of those days when their new baby just wouldn't stop crying - You feed it, you burp it, you change its nappy, and still, it wail . If you're like me, you probably look at your baby with pleading eyes, and wish you knew what it was thinking, so you could sort it out and get some sleep. And if you're baby is anything like the Little Sod , it's probably thinking 'If I scream and scream very quickly without taking any breaths, my face turns purple. It works a ...

How to Be a Little Sod - Simon Brett

Premium Review Silly Sod (418 words)
by blackviolets - written on 10/05/09 (Very useful, 24 readings)
Rating:

This was one of those books which I thought I was going to enjoy but felt a bit let down whilst I was reading it. It was actually in the humour section of my bookshop and after reading the first few pages I figured it was going to be a good read. It is basically a diary entry style story, narrated throughout by a baby in its first year. We are never told what sex it is or what the name is either. He or She being simply known as 'baby.' I think it is up to the reader to make it up their own minds about it, in my opinion I see the baby as being a boy. But maybe that's because I have a narrow minded view at this coniving baby who projectile vomits on purpose. Other ...

The Hanging in the Hotel - Simon Brett

Premium Review Comfort reading (739 words)
by sunmeilan - written on 14/07/06 (Very useful, 70 readings)
Rating:

Introduction Simon Brett’s name is familiar to me as the author of the bestselling How to Be a Little Sod, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so when I found out that he also wrote crime fiction, I was intrigued. It didn’t take me all that long to get through the book, but every minute was great fun. As a piece of literature, it doesn’t really show up on the radar, but as entertainment, it deserves full marks. The plot Suzy Longthorne, former model, now runs an exclusive country house hotel in Sussex. Short of staff, she calls in her long-term friend, Jude to help out with the waitressing for an important meeting of the Pillars of Sussex, a sort of Masonic society. During the ...
