Advantages: Easy to use, informative and accurate

Disadvantages: Would be even more useful if they contained a couple more city maps

The Lonely Planet guide books are the best of their kind that I have come across so far. Whenever I am planning to visit a foreign country I always make sure that I pick up the Lonely Planet guide to read before I leave as it really does give a great insight into the culture of the country so that I have some idea of what to expect before I arrive there. The books are written by people who have actually stayed in the countries for extended periods and they have experienced day to day life there. All the books are full of nuggets of useful information such as recommended restaurants and hotels/hostels. Also, a background of the history of each country is included in each edition so that you can learn more about the places which you will be visiting before you get there. As well as this, the guide books can be extremely useful to have with you when you are at your chosen destination as they contain information about sites of interest as well as hints and tips such as the best places to exchange money.

Summary: Excellent guide books
