The Long Road Home is a great book. It is one of the first Danielle Steel novels I read. It touched me deeply, and has not been easily forgotten. The Long Road Home is the story of a young girl who is abused by her mother, while her father knows about it, but does not intervene. Reading this book gives you a better understanding of how a child being abused feels. As you read you can almost feel the little girls pain. When the girl gets a little older, her father leaves and remarries. A few years later her mother decided to go off with her new boyfriend. So the mother takes the girl to a catholic orphanage. This was the first book of her's I'd ever read and I only read the first page and I was hooked - I couldn't put it down. I don't think that I have ever read such an heart breaking story I felt her pain and happyness and the terror it was as though it was me.On many occasions I had to put the book down as it upset me that much but I couldn't leave it alone.It was from reading that book that I got intrested in the rest as I always looked at her books as romantic junk but after reading this one i've become a true fan.
