Long Walk to Freedom - Nelson Mandela. Let me start with why I wanted to read this. Obviously most of us know the general life story of this brilliant man. I was prompted to read this after a visit to Berlin and seeing the effects of the Holocaust, but most importantly the reasons it was allowed to happen. It really made me think that we have to make sure we keep our civil liberties, however small. Of course there are necessary infringements on them if it is valid but if the majority stand by whilst a minority is persecuted we are allowing another holocaust to begin. Anyway I go on......... This made me realise why Mandela had done what he had and so I wanted to ... Read the complete review

Nelson Mandel- Mandela-The Authorised Biography Before, I write my opinion I must confess that my review may be slightly biased. Nelson Mandela I my hero, he’s the one person I would love to meet. The life of Nelson Mandela is one of the epic stories of the 20th century. It’s one of the most inspiring and one of the courageous story I have ever read. It was just over twenty years ago that Mandela was forgotten person in Robben Island in jail. However, today’s he’s one of the most respected people a live, respected by world leaders and the already folk. The book reveals how Mandela coped with prison, ... Read the complete review

This book is fantastic. It begins with Nelson relating with pride the history of his family, his tribe and his beloved South Africa. He does it in such a way as to leave you in no doubt that he is a simple man with a simple and singular wish, that no-one should be put upon by others. He goes into great detail about his life as a child and all the people and places, both good and bad, that influenced him. He details the struggle an ordinary African had to endure just to get a basic education. Not an education of Africa by Africans, but a white man's education, teaching him that the Africans are savages and Europeans are the saviours of the world. ... Read the complete review

Do you know what it's like to be born black when white people are running the country your people have occupied for centuries? Can you understand the anger that can build up inside a man at his family being treated like lesser beings? To be born with prejudice and to live to end it. That is what Nelson Mandela's life and book is about. From earliest memories as a boy in a tribal village to release from prison Mandela speaks of his life, family, politics, how he lived for his country at the cost of his health and marriages. His views arn't always ones I can agree with but I can understand the anger and frustrations behind them. One ... Read the complete review

It took me longer to read this book than any other i had read but boy was it worth it. The first thing that struck me about this book was its thickness, at 751 pages this is not a book to be taken lightly although once you start to read it the subject grips you and takes you right through to the 751'st page. The copy i have is in softback and priced at 9.99 a price that i find more than reasonable considering the quality of the book. The book is an autobiographical account of the life of Nelson Mandela and whilst there is a fair share of politics involved it does not deter from the personal battle(s) he fought. There are 11 chapters in total ... Read the complete review
