Nelson Mandel- Mandela-The Authorised Biography Before, I write my opinion I must confess that my review may be slightly biased. Nelson Mandela I my hero, he’s the one person I would love to meet. The life of Nelson Mandela is one of the epic stories of the 20th century. It’s one of the most inspiring and one of the courageous story I have ever read. It was just over twenty years ago that Mandela was forgotten person in Robben Island in jail. However, today’s he’s one of the most respected people a live, respected by world leaders and the already folk. The book reveals how Mandela coped with prison, how he fought against the apartheid system in South Africa. How he separated from his wife Winnie and rarely saw his children. The book also shows how Britain and America cold-shouldered before he went to jail, how the British right-wingers encouraged the Zulu Chief Buthelezi in his war against the ANC. In the book, we are given the account of his last farewell when he gave a moving farewell to the party which he believed made him: “More often than not an epoch creates and nurtures the individuals who are associated with its twist who are associated with its twists and turns; and so a name become a symbol of an era. As we hand over the baton it is appropriate that I should thank the ANC for shaping me as a symbol of what it stands for.” Nelson Mandela did for South Africa what Martin Luther King did in America and what Gandhi did in India. Very few people can change a system of government, people’s ways of thinking, Mandela was at the forefront of change, with the ANC they did make change. He gained respect from all quarters of the world. This book provides some excellent insight to his life. Its co-written with Anthony Sampson. Well worth a read.
