Advantages: surprisingly interesting

Disadvantages: not as many laughs as you might expect

I'm not the biggest Alan Carr fan but I saw this on special offer so decided to give it a go and I was pleasantly surpised. The book is in the from of a traditional biography starting with his childhood memories and university experiences before going on to reminisce about his struggle to find a worthwhile carreer before finding his big comedy break.

The book is much less jokey than I expected but this does not mean there aren't a few laughs, most of which come from his time working in rubbish jobs such as cleaning grease off of car gearboxes! I found it interesting because his life is very normal up to the point where he begins to make it as a comedian and rather than being boring it is nice to hear him speak about his upbringing which may have similarities with your own. Especially for younger people who are struggling with their sexuality it may be comforting to read this book and see that others have been through the same thing and survived!

I would recommend it to anyone who is a nit nosey like me and likes to take a peek into other people's lives.

Summary: a good read

I'm afraid I don't find him funny at all, Susan
