It's only been just over two years since I first discovered the wonders that is Loose Women. For those who have yet to enjoy the show, it is an ITV show which is on Monday to Friday, from 12:30 until 1:30 - a perfect way to occupy your lunch time! Each show consists of two guests and a variety of debates on the latest topical issues. While this is all amazing, what makes the show truly amazing is its panel.
Each show consists of a panel of four, rotating each day. There are two anchors: Andrea McLean and Kate Thornton. Kate is definitely a great presenter and I must admit I am pleased she took over Jackie rather than anybody else. It isn't the same with out Jackie Brambles, but Kate is a pretty good substitute! As for Andrea, well she is at the heart of my career, so I can only hope that she never leaves the show!
The rest of the panel is made up of various other faces. We have: Coleen Nolan, Sherrie Hewson, Carol McGiffin, Lynda Bellingham, Denise Welch, Jane McDonald and Lisa Maxwell. What makes the show work, I feel, is the fact that the panel are all different. Okay so they might have the same profession i.e. there are a few actors on the panel, but their personalities differ still which helps them to gel together. There are also panellists who come on now and again when needed, including Lesley Garrett, Zoe Tyler and 'Make Me a Loose Woman' competition winner Rachel Agnew.
I cannot allow myself to miss an episode of Loose Women. Because I am away from the house most of the time, I find myself catching up online later in the evening. Because the episodes are always available, I find myself watching the clips over and over. As enjoyable as this is, I sometimes need to feed my Loose Women addiction in another way. When I first heard there was going to be a Loose Women book released, I was ecstatic! 'Girls Night In' was such an amazing success, reaching Number 1 in the book charts, that they decided to release a second book. As soon as I could, I preordered 'Here Come The Girls'.
Finally, the book was released and through my letterbox it came tumbling. I must say, I didn't expect the book to look so wonderful! The last one was very girlie and pink, but this one was a lot more glamorous, more 'showbiz'. The cover is one to be admired truly. It is a luscious deep red colour, with a lovely border to look like mirror lights. There is a picture of each of our Loose Women (though Kate isn't there, and Lesley Garret is...odd!), each dressed smartly. They are all in different poses, soon looking at one another, some applying make up and some just looking straight at the camera. It's definitely a lovely cover, allowing you to create an instant great first impression.
Of course, a lovely cover is great, but it is what is inside the book that counts. At the beginning there is a bit of information about each of the women, which is interesting to read especially if you do not know too much about them. The 340 pages of the book are then split into sections: Christmas, Happy New Year, Winter Dressing, Beauty Secrets, Tips for Feeling Good, Sex, The Highs and Lows of Long Term Love, Dear Loose Women, and Be Our Guest.
Each section talks about the issues appropriate to that chapter, for example Christmas shopping within the Christmas chapter, using expensive creams within Beauty Secrets, and their favourite guests within Be Our Guest. The thing I like best about the layout is the fact that it is not written out like a story, but like a script so it feels like you are listening to an episode on TV, especially if you can hear their voices in your head as you read!
There was a lot of debate over the last book between fans as to whether the information was just put together from episodes, or if the panel had actually sat down and discussed their answers. Now thankfully I found that in this book there was no resemblance to the television show debates, which is wonderful. Though, at the back of the book, there is actually a few pages of 'scripts' - actual scripts taken from some of the most amusing interviews with guests from the show. I'm still to locate the episodes. This is especially delightful as it is a way to relive the episodes. Also, many of the scripts at the end include Jackie Brambles, since they are taken from the previous series. I do miss Jackie on the show dearly, so I am thrilled she still has a mention.
This is an amazing feel-good book. Any problems you are going through and you can guarantee one of the ladies at least have been through it too. The book makes you feel like you are not alone, and indeed makes you feel quite good about yourself. For me, it is an insight further into the lives of those I aspire to be like, which I love. I paid £10 for this book online from Amazon.co.uk, which is the price you should expect to find it in book stores such as WHSmith or Waterstones. It is definitely worth the money, and I think the paperback will be released soon enough if you do not wish to pay as much as £10. That is, if you are able to wait for the paperback to be released! I know I couldn't!
This has become one of my favourite books, alongside Girls Night In. I read it in the space of two hours, and despite the fact that it meant I didn't get to sleep until two o' clock in the morning, it was well worth staying up for. It is a delightful book full of information, emotions and anecdotes, and is most certainly worth looking out for!
