As the first of the demonata series, Lord Loss is a great opening story by Darren Shan. The Grady's had a family curse which would result in Grubbs' sister turning into a werewolf. Grubbs' parents wanted to solve the problem by making a deal with Lord Loss. Grubbs was oblivious to this until he decided to sneak out of his aunt's house and go back home. He finds his family all dead, killed by a demon master, Lord Loss and his sidekicks Artery and Vein (quite shocking I know). Grubbs tries to fight the demons but ends up worse off and in hospital. His uncle, Dervish comes and collects him, believing his story about the demons. Grubbs meets his cousin Bill-E ... Read the complete review

'Lord Loss' is the first in a series of books based on the fictional demon world of the Demonata, written by Darren Shan. I must admit, when my sister passed me a copy of this first book I was not too thrilled about the prospect of reading it, even though both her and my eleven year old niece raved about it. I had read a thousand horror books before and thought that a horror book for kids was not going to thrill me much. But after finishing a slog of a read that was overly descriptive, this one appeared to leap from the book shelf and land on my lap at just the right time. Grubbs Grady lives a relatively normal life, save for the fact that him and his ... Read the complete review

L ord Loss is the first book of the ten book saga of the 'Demonata'writtenby Darren Shan. The Demonata is the second series that Shan has written coming after the widely successful Saga of Darren Shan (aptly named I guess). 'Lord Loss' was released June 6th 2005 within the UK. Darren Shan is the number one best seller of teenage horror but I would really like to point out that he is often refered to as a childrens auther but a lot of the material in this book begs to differ and is vey obviously not for the very young but ill go into that more later. The book itself is easily readable with large font and is set out in a very easy to follow way, written in first ... Read the complete review

Darren Shan has been writing teen horror books for a long time now, lets just say he knows what he is doing. After reading the darren shan saga (his first series of books) I was looking forward to his new "demonta" series. In Darren Shan it was certain Darren would get through any hardships that may come his way as he wwas the only main character and would be needed for the next book. In the demonata series however the author (also called Darren Shan) informed us that there would be 3 different characters. Each book would be from the perspective of a different person. Each character however would be living in a different time through histroy but they ... Read the complete review

A fantastic fast paced, gory book with clever wit. Having read (and reread) all of Darrens previous books i had to purchase this one...i wasnt disapointed! This is the 1st of a series of books called the demonata, probably not that great for kids under the age of 11, but for any other age (including adults) its brilliant, it really gets the reader involved with all the characters and mysterious world of the demonata, keeps you guessing throughout the series and if you are already a fan of Darren you have GOT to read this book. It has Darrens usual style of writing but is slightly edgier than the vampire series as it has a slight modern twist). If you have read ... Read the complete review

An interesting twist that brings home the damage humans are causing to the world.
