Lord Loss is the first book in Darren Shan's new series called the Demonata. Having enjoyed Darren's previous books in this genre I could not wait for him to begin this new series. The Saga of Darren Shan was written from his own perspective and although this book is written in the first person it is Grubbs Grady who's the main character here.

Lord Loss starts off with Grubbs in a normal family situation winding up his sister like all teenage boys do. However when he gets home one day to find his house ravaged by demons who then turn on him he is forced to find something new within himself to fight off his attackers. With the distress of losing his family Grubb's tales are disregarded and he goes to live with his uncle Dervish. Dervish is a mysterious man and when Grubbs finds out that his friend is in danger he must fight with Dervish to rescue his friend from a terrible fate.

After the success of the first series I am glad to say that this book starts off the Demonata series in a positive and exciting way. I would certainly recommend this book to any teenager and if you've read the previous series then you'll no doubt enjoy this aswell. This is a great start to another fantastic series of books from the master of teenage horror Darren Shan.
